La valiosa colección de motos, trofeos y otros objetos de interés pertenecientes a Ivan Mauger, el más grande piloto del carretera de todos los tiempos.

Los lotes incluyen la moto en la que Ivan Mauger ganó el primero de sus seis finales del mundo en 1968 y la máquina que lo vio tomar su quinto título mundial en 1977.

Todo lo que se ha enviado a Inglaterra desde la casa familiar de Iván en Gold Coast de Australia e incluye muchas de sus posesiones más personales del carretera.
Muchos eran en realidad en la exhibición en su casa junto al canal, y visto solamente por su familia y amigos cercanos.

Ellos nunca han estado en exhibición pública en cualquier parte del mundo, pero ahora están a la venta en un evento de una sola vez.

IVAN GERALD MAUGER
Nacido: October 4,1939, Christchurch, Nueva Zelanda.
Adolescentes Iván y su esposa Raye - que se conocieron cuando ambos estaban en la escuela en Christchurch, Nueva Zelanda - primera aventuraron a Gran Bretaña en 1957, pero volvieron a casa, cabizbajo y rompieron, al final de la temporada siguiente.
Pero volvería de nuevo en 1963 - y que fue el comienzo real de una carrera sin precedentes.
Ganó su primer título mundial Speedway individuo en el estadio Ullevi de Gotemburgo, Suecia, en 1968, defendió con éxito en Wembley, Inglaterra, en 1969; y luego se convirtió en el primer y único piloto que hacerlo tres títulos consecutivos en Wroclaw, Polonia, en 1970.
Ganó otros tres finales del mundo - un registro que permanecerá para siempre - en Inglaterra, Suecia y Polonia, la última victoria que viene en 1979 en Katowice.
Pero no sólo fue un éxito individual como actuó en una serie de competiciones de la Copa Mundial, lo que lleva a la victoria Gran Bretaña en 1968, 1971 y 1972 y Nueva Zelanda a su único triunfo en la Copa Mundial en 1979.

A unique treasure trove of speedway memories will go under the hammer next month (October).
The priceless collection of bikes, trophies and other memorabilia belong to Ivan Mauger, the greatest speedway rider of all time.
The lots include the bike on which Ivan Mauger won the first of his six World Finals in 1968 and the machine that saw him take his fifth world title in 1977.
Everything has been shipped over to England from Ivan’s family home on Australia’s Gold Coast and includes many of his most personal speedway possessions.
Many were actually on display in his canal-side home and seen only by his family and close personal friends.
They have never been on public display anywhere in the world but are now up for sale in a one-off event.
The bikes will be sold individually but other lots will combine a variety of items and the total collection is certain to break all records for speedway memorabilia.
The most valuable items will be the ten bikes that chart Ivan’s racing life from his early novice days to the last meeting of a glittering career.
They include two of the machines on which he became the only rider to ever win three successive World Finals, in 1968, 1969 and 1970.
Also on offer is a 1972 Jawa that incorporates the engine he used when he claimed his fourth world title in 1972 as well as several of his long track machines.
Besides six speedway bikes there are another four rare long track machines.
Every single item has its own story, not only for Ivan, his wife Raye, their three children Julie, Kym and Debbie but for every speedway enthusiast who ever saw him ride.
And every single item listed in the catalogue has been personally authenticated by the Mauger family so there is absolutely no doubt about their provenance.
Daughters Julie and Debbie and son Kym will all fly to England from their homes in Australia for the auction which is bound to attract hundreds of speedway collectors and supporters.
The auction isn’t simply about the bikes he rode though.
There are also more than 300 other unique items – ranging from leathers to race jackets, from medals to trophies, from helmets to programmes, from photographs to World Final posters – included among the lots which will be sold by leading auctioneers Bonhams at their Autumn Sale of Motorcycles and Spares at Staffordshire County Showground, Stafford, on Sunday, October 15th.
The items are from all over the world recount, in their own way, the amazing career of Mauger who was born in New Zealand, spent the majority of his racing career in Britain and is now in a nursing home suffering from cognitive aphasia (a communication disorder) on Australia’s Gold Coast.

IVAN GERALD MAUGER
Born: October 4,1939, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Teenagers Ivan and his wife Raye – they met when they were both at school in Christchurch, New Zealand – first ventured to Britain in 1957 but returned home, crestfallen and broke, at the end of the following season.
But they would return again in 1963 – and that was the REAL beginning of an unparalleled career.
He won his first individual speedway world title at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1968, successfully defended it at Wembley, England, in 1969; and then became the first and only rider to make it three titles in a row at Wroclaw, Poland, in 1970.
He won a further three World Finals – a record that will stand for ever – in England, Sweden and Poland, the last victory coming in 1979 at Katowice.
But he wasn’t only an individual success as he starred in a string of World Cup competitions, leading Great Britain to victory in 1968, 1971 and 1972 and New Zealand to their one and only World Cup triumph in 1979.
He was also crowned World Pairs Champion twice, representing New Zealand, where he was born, in 1969 and 1970 and was World Long Track (1,000 metre) Champion in 1971 (in Oslo, Norway), 1972 (Mühldorf, West Germany), and 1976 (Marianske-lazne, Czechoslovakia).
That means was presented with FIM track gold medals in six different countries and, in all, raced in some 20 different countries – including Russia, Japan and the United States of America throughout his lengthy career.
He was awarded the MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the 1976 New Year’s Honours and the OBE (Officer of ther Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) 13 years later, the only speedway rider ever to receive both honours.
He was also voted speedway’s World Millennium Man by supporters from across the globe in 2000.
